Statement

From September 19 through the morning of September 20, heavy precipitation occurred along the Adjara coastline and in surrounding areas, resulting in street flooding and the temporary overloading of urban infrastructure in parts of Batumi.

According to meteorological observations by the National Environmental Agency, the highest precipitation levels in the region were recorded in Batumi; continuous rain fell for 21 hours, with a total accumulation of 275 mm between September 19 and 20—an amount exceeding 90% of the monthly climatic norm. Notably, 20% of this total (52.5 mm) fell within a single hour (between 21:00 and 22:00 on September 19). Compared to historical data, the 24-hour rainfall recorded at the Batumi station (273 mm) is unprecedented for September, representing a precipitation event with a 100-year return period. Additionally, according to data from the agency's meteorological stations, precipitation levels on September 19–20 measured 134.5 mm at the Kobuleti station, 58.5 mm at the Kokhi (Kobuleti) station, 93 mm at Mtirala National Park, and 50.8 mm at the Sindieti (Khelvachauri) station.

The National Environmental Agency continues to monitor hydrometeorological conditions around the clock. Information and warnings regarding expected weather and hydrometeorological hazards can be viewed on the National Environmental Agency’s early warning mobile platform:
